This post is intended to be an encyclopedia of brewing knowledge, condensing everything that is known across all forums and bukkit posts. I will be maintaining and updating the post as the plug-in evolves.

The somewhat difficult brewing process rewards you with a diversity of Potions, which, through their effects, create a drunkenness that has never existed on Maestrea before.

Learn the art of brewing through fermenting, distilling and barrel aging on Maestrea. Experience how, from spring water and wheat, through hard work, a cool beer is created. Distill high-proof liquor, which gets that unique taste after some aging in oak barrels. Celebrate the biggest feasts you can imagine and always keep the cheerful atmosphere. Fill the taverns with laughter and loud music, while the drunkards scuffle on the streets.

Features
  • Brew alcoholic Drinks, that actually can make you drunk
  • Drunk people will stagger, the chat is influenced, effects and more
  • Wake up at /home after a long night of drinking
  • Lower quality brewed drinks have downsides like hangover
  • Process of brewing with different steps like fermenting, distilling, aging
  • Refine the quality, until the Drinks are perfect
  • Master the brewing of even the most difficult Drinks
Unlike in vanilla Minecraft it is not as easy as adding an ingredient to a brewing stand and waiting for it to finish. Depending on the recipe the whole process can be difficult and time consuming. Some recipes may need a high precision when it comes to ingredients or any other step in the process. If one step was not good enough, the quality of the brews may suffer, leading to side effects like bad alcohol and other toxics.

Depending on the recipe, some steps may not be needed (if a step is not listed in the recipe, it is not required for the brew) The following instruction describes the common procedure of brewing.

Fermenting
Step one consists of fermenting the fresh Ingredients.
  1. Place cauldron over a heat source (fire of some sort)
  2. Fill the cauldron with water
  3. Add ingredients with a rightclick **Some ingredients require special placement for the cauldron to accept them. Check the list of bugs at the bottom of this post.**
  4. Wait while they ferment
  5. Fill in glass bottles
Use a clock on a cauldron if you want to know the time the ingredients have been fermenting.

Distilling
  1. Put the bottle with fermented brew into the brewing stand
  2. Put glowstone dust as filter on top into the brewing stand (the filter will not be consumed)
Aging
A barrel is needed for aging. It can be built two ways:

  • Small barrel
8 Wooden stairs built like this:

Place a sign on the lower right side and write "Barrel" in the top line:

    Message "Barrel created" should appear

  • Big barrel
4 fence, 16 wooden stairs, 18 wood planks built like this (can be hollow inside):

Attach a spigot (fence) and a sign that has "Barrel" written on the first Line:

    Message "barrel created" should appear
You may remove the sign from the big barrel after creating it. The sign MUST REMAIN on the small barrel though.
The small barrel is opened with a right click on the sign, the big barrel with a right click anywhere on the barrel.

Put the bottles into the barrels for aging.
Depending on the recipe the type of wood used may alter the quality of the aged brew.

The barrel should not be destroyed while aging, as it would leak after a short while.

When breaking the spigot, everything inside will spill out.

Drinking
The amount of alcohol inside the brew will be applied to the player when drinking. Depending on the quality of it, that may have different effects.
  • The Player may not be able to walk normally anymore, he will weave, making it almost impossible to walk straight
  • Effects like Blindness, Confusion, Poison etc. occur
  • The chat will be altered depending on drunkeness, many things players write may be incomprehensible, sometimes it seems senseless (this feature is currently disabled until it can be configured properly)
  • If the alcohol is particularly strong, it may have poisonous effects
  • After drinking a lot, there is a chance of vomiting
  • When logging off, the player may have difficulties reaching his character, thus some loggins shortly after may be denied
  • After overdrinking the player may faint (Disconnect)
Getting Sober
After drinking it takes a while until the alcohol is completely gone. During that time the alcohol level is steadily decreasing. It can be decreased by consuming milk or bread as well.
  • When logging off extremely drunk, it may happen that, if the player logs back in after a while, he may find himself at an completely unknown place in the middle of nowhere having no idea how he got there.
  • But if he logs back in after some hours or next morning, he will find himself at /home, again without any memories.
  • Also if the alcohol was not of best quality, the player may face some bad type of hangover (slowness and hunger).
All information taken from the Brewery plugin wiki, we did not create the plugin and don't take credit for it.

Bugs/Hints
  • If a step is missing in the recipe, then it is not required (ex. No age listed = no aging required) Tea’s typically have no alcohol, beers a little and spirits a lot.
  • ALWAYS click the side of the cauldron when putting ingredients in. Clicking the water may place the block on top of the cauldron, or just not allow it to be placed at all.
  • Higher difficulty brews require PRECISION on ALL parts. You must cook the exact amount of ingredients the exact amount of time and age them exactly according to the recipe. A few seconds can make all the difference between a good quality brew and an excellent quality brew.
  • Some items must be mined with silk touch or with sheers. Grass for example refers to grass clipped with shears, while a grass block refers to the actual block.
  • No two brews are the same, even from the same batch. As such, potions can only be sold one at a time in /auction. The length of buffs/debuffs can also differ from potion to potion, even from the same batch, so be sure to experiment!
  • Every brew has 3 stages of "quality" based on how strict the recipe was followed and how difficult the recipe is to create... Will you be able to brew the perfect drinks?
  • Recipes will be added/edited and removed on a regular basis, so check back often! New recipes will be posted in BOLD RED until the next batch of recipes is released. Be sure to check all the sections (regular, mystery, etc...)

*Recipes are subject to change due to bugs in the plug-in. If you have any bugs to report, or recipes to suggest, please do so in this thread only.

Summer is here and it’s hot as He… The Nether?

This is a 6 pack of seasonal brews that I’m releasing for the summer season (here in the US.) It’s my hope to release a 6 pack every season and rotate them in and out as the seasons progress. For this set of summer brews, the focus is our little version of Minecraft Hell… The Nether!

Every seasonal 6 pack will have one VERY hard brew that will have the potential to yield VERY rewarding effects. This Summer’s hard brew is Dragon’s Fire - with a potential at haste 5 for up to 90 seconds! This is currently the highest level of haste available in the game, so get it while you can! (For PvP purposes I have added a counter balance effect as to not make it OP in PvP.)

Please note that any brews currently made when the seasons switch are likely to not work anymore. I have no intention of changing the way that works, as I want the seasonal brews to be something special and only available during those seasons. This means these 6 brews will only be available for the summer, so brew them while you can!

Seasonal Brews:
  • Name: Smoldering Whiskey
Ingredients: 4x Magma Block, 9x Wheat, 2x Grass Block
    Cooking time: 7
    Distill Runs: 1
    Age: 3 Days
    Wood: Oak
    Difficulty: 4
  • Name: Red Sangria
Ingredients: 2x Nether Wart Block, 1x Nether Star, 2x Poppy, 3x Redstone
    Cooking time: 5
    Age: 1 day
    Wood: Any
    Difficulty: 7
  • Name: Bone Grappa
Ingredients: 4x Bone Block, 10x Bone, 2x Quartz Ore, 2x Cobweb
    Cooking time: 12
    Age: 5 days
    Wood: Dark Oak
    Difficulty: 8
  • Name: The Darkness
Ingredients: 9x Obsidian, 6x Mycelium, 3x Nether Wart
    Cooking time: 6
    Distill Runs: 7
    Age: 10
    Wood: Any
    Difficulty: 9
*The Darkness is the most potent beverage on Maestrea… I take no responsibility for your actions or for your ability to play on Maestrea after consuming this.
  • Name: Westerosi Wine
Ingredients: 12x Nether Wart, 6x Red Mushroom, 5x Netherrack
    Cooking time: 30
    Distill Runs: 1
    Age: 4
    Wood: Acacia
    Difficulty: 8
  • Name: Dragon's Fire
Ingredients: 6x Lapis Ore, 8x Dragon's Breath, 12x Glowstone Dust, 5x Nether Brick*
    Cooking time: 22
    Distill Runs: 5
    Age time: 72 days
    Wood: Jungle
    Difficulty: 10
*Dragon's Fire is going to be one of the most difficult brew’s I’ve ever released… But the payout potential is VERY HIGH if used properly. The Nether Brick in this recipe refers to the brick you get from cooking netherrack... NOT THE BLOCK VERSION!!

*Please note, this plugin is still undergoing extensive testing. Brew at your own risk. Lost materials are not likely to be replaced. Thanks to a few members and testing, I have ironed out most issues, but please report any you find here.

Whenever I try to add enderpearls as an ingredient, I just end up throwing it on the cauldron, I tried right clicking, and dropping it in, but it never works. Is this a bug, or am i doing something wrong?

Be sure to right click the side of the cauldron. Let me know if this helps.

Right now Neather vodak and Bright vodak do not work. Not sure if this is from the recipes being posted wrong or a bug with these 2 drinks.

edit now fixed

I think I figured out what happened here. Potato has two forms, one while it's in the ground and one while it's in your hand. I'm pretty sure I was using the wrong one (this is why Chilled Vodka was giving you issues as well.) I've crossed through it for now.

This fix, along with even MORE recipes, will be coming with the next update (hopefully this weekend)

Their should be over distillation, say you leave the rum in the stand for too long it becomes an "over distilled brew" ;)
We were lucky to get distillation working at all with 1.9. It is a bummer that it stops when you hit the number, but I tried to make up for it by adding mystery brews that make things a bit harder.

I'll keep my eye out for an update that better fixes distillation. :)

**BUG** Currently, it appears that Large Barrels will sometimes mess up the quality of a brew. I have not experienced this with a small barrel, so I recommend all aging be done in SMALL BARRELS.

UPDATE 5/30/16: It appears there has been an update to the distill process. Dev claims that it should imitate the old method, but should you notice anything different, please report that here.

Just saw this in Action today looks to be working perfectly.

edit: Looks like the stands now use up blaze powder so if you want to brew you will need some handy.

Edit 2: Cachaca will not over distill like other drinks right now

There is no reason to post in both places.

If something requires cooking for just 1 minute, it can be pulled out immediately after the last ingredient has been placed inside.
